Appeal after unit fire

Police are appealing for information after a unit fire that left a man with smoke inhalation in Newcastle.

About 6am (Saturday 17 June 2017), emergency services were called to a unit block on Fowler Street, Hamilton South, after reports of a fire.

Fire & Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze.

A 46-year-old male resident was taken to John Hunter Hospital with minor smoke inhalation.

A crime scene was established. Police are treating the fire as suspicious.

Officers from Newcastle City Local Area Command launched an investigation and are calling for any witnesses that haven’t spoken with police to come forward.
