New office provides local disability supports

WA Disability Services Minister Stephen Dawson celebrated the opening of the WA Department of Communities (Disability Services) Local Coordination office for the Great Southern region.

Located in Albany, the office comprises a Local Coordination team of 14 staff who provide support to more than 500 people with disability, their families and carers living in Albany and surrounding areas.

Local Coordinators are based across the State and work closely with people with disability, their families and carers to plan and access the support and services they need to meet their needs.

Their local experience and knowledge ensures they can provide personalised support and connect people with disability to the locally based supports and services that best meet their needs.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is scheduled to be rolled-out in the Great Southern region from July 1, 2019.

A key focus for the Local Coordination team at the new Albany office will be working closely with people with disability, their families and carers, as well as service providers and the local community to prepare for the NDIS.
