The Territory Government is determined to restoring trust to Government and ensuring the delivery of a high standard of necessary services to Territorians.
Treasurer Nicole Manison thanked the Public Accounts Committee for their report into the efficiency, effectiveness and probity of the regulation and licencing of the Northern Territory taxi industry, particularly subleasing.
“Territorians trust us to do the right thing, and as a new Transport Minister, I welcomed this inquiry into the practice of subleasing in the taxi industry and I thank the committee for this very useful body of work,” she said.
“The Taxi Industry in the Northern Territory provides a very important service, often under challenging circumstances and I also thank the industry representatives and stakeholders for their contribution to this Inquiry.
“A sustainable taxi industry is essential for Territorians, and it is important that we regularly review the existing state of play, particularly given the changes to the industry with the introduction of ridesharing.
“We will consider all 11 recommendations made by the Public Accounts Committee, and work through them in a considered and responsible way, as we continue to work with the Industry, to ensure the best outcomes for all Territorians,” Ms Manison said.
