Racegoers at Warrnambool are gearing up for a big season of greyhound racing this summer thanks to a joint funding package of more than $55,000 supported by the Victorian Government.
The Government is providing $21,000 from the Victorian Racing Industry Fund for the Warrnambool Greyhound Racing Club’s 2017–18 Seaside Festival.
The Seaside Festival encompasses eight race meetings including a special pirate-themed night on Thursday 28 December 2017, a circus-themed twilight event on 4 January 2018, an Olympic twilight event on 6 January 2018, a carnival night on 11 January 2018, and a twilight event on Friday 12 January 2018.
The themed race meetings will also include a free kid’s meal with every adult meal purchase.
There will be an additional night race meeting on 30 December 2017, a day meeting on 31 December 2017 and a twilight meeting on 2 January 2018.
Greyhound Racing Victoria is contributing more than $26,700 to the festival, while the club is contributing almost $8,000.
The racing industry in the Western District generates more than $100 million for the Victorian economy annually and helps sustain more than 980 full-time equivalent jobs in the region.
