Teen charged after vehicle stolen – Lake Macquarie

A teenager has been charged after a vehicle was stolen in Lake Macquarie.

Sometime after 5.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 13 March 2018), it is alleged a Ford Mondeo was stolen from a driveway in Mount Hutton.

About 1.20am today (Wednesday 14 March 2018), police from Lake Macquarie Police District were patrolling south on the Newcastle Inner City Bypass, Windale, when they saw the Ford.

It is alleged the driver accelerated away and police lost sight of the vehicle.

About 20 minutes later, officers saw the Ford again while patrolling on Lake Street.

The vehicle has driven away before mounting a gutter at South Street and hitting a wall.

Two teenagers were seen attempting to flee the crash.

A 15-year-old girl was arrested by police at the scene and taken to Belmont Police Station.

She was charged with take and drive conveyance, not stop vehicle when directed, never licensed person drive vehicle and negligent driving.

The girl was granted conditional bail and will appear at a children’s court on Monday 26 March 2018.

Police were unable to locate a second teenager seen fleeing the crash and are appealing for anyone with information regarding the incident to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
