Are you worried about your memory? Do you know someone living with dementia? Dementia Australia is now holding free community education sessions for Cairns residents affected by dementia.
Currently, an estimated 250 Australians are joining the population with dementia each day. With figures expected to grow to more than 1 million diagnosed by 2056 – it is a condition that touches many and impacts all.
In Queensland alone, there are currently estimated to be more than 80,000 people living with dementia. An estimated 848 of these people reside in Cairns.
Dementia Australia Community Development Officer Kylen Evans said the aim of Dementia Australia’s education sessions is to provide support for Queensland residents living with dementia, as well as provide support and education to their families and carers who are also impacted.
“When someone you love is diagnosed with dementia it can be a difficult time,” Kylen said.
“Facilitated by dementia experts, our sessions cover effective strategies to help manage daily life and keep healthy. Sessions also cover techniques for improved communication and the support available within the attendees’ local community.
“Importantly, the education sessions are delivered in a safe, supportive and understanding environment.”
Registrations for the below sessions are essential and light refreshments will be provided.
