Funding boost for South-West agriculture welcomed

The WA Government has welcomed the Federal Government’s $140 million investment in the Myalup-Wellington project, which will stimulate new agricultural activity in the South-West.

The State Government committed $37 million to the Myalup-Wellington project, an industry-led initiative looking at solutions to lowering salinity levels at Wellington Dam.

Project proponents Collie Water will invest about $169 million in the project.

Reducing salinity in the dam will provide more water for irrigation in the South-West, driving new agricultural opportunities for the region.

However, the WA Government is calling on the Federal Government to also co-invest in the Southern Forests Irrigation Scheme.

The State Government has committed $19 million to the $80 million project, which will further develop irrigation options around Manjimup and Pemberton.
