The WA Government has established a beekeeping traineeship to be offered for the first time in Western Australia.
A Certificate III in Beekeeping is now available through industry-based traineeships to help produce workers with the high level of skills required to maintain the world-class quality of Western Australia’s product.
Despite high local and international demand for WA honey, commercial apiaries have found it difficult to find suitably qualified staff to support export growth.
A WA traineeship will create more job opportunities, particularly at entry level, and address industry needs by supporting business expansion.
There are currently more than 960 registered beekeepers in Western Australia, with more than 29,000 hives. More than 90 per cent of beekeepers are amateur beekeepers with no formal qualifications.
