An all-singing, all-dancing tribute to the most famous dancer of all time, Fred Astaire, will be performed live on the Department of Tourism and Culture’s Araluen Arts Centre stage in April 2018.
“We are excited to be presenting A Fine Romance: The Magic of Fred Astaire at the Araluen Arts Centre that follows the life of an extraordinary performer,” Director of the Department of Tourism and Culture’s Araluen Cultural Precinct, Dr Mark Crees said.
“A Fine Romance looks at Astaire’s career and the music and dances that came to define him as one of the finest leading men of the golden age of Hollywood, as well as the women who played opposite him.”
A Fine Romance takes audiences on a journey from Astaire’s humble beginnings on Broadway, all the way to his Hollywood days and on screen romances with his many leading ladies, including Judy Garland, Audrey Hepburn, Rita Hayworth and of course Ginger Rogers.
“There will plenty of tap-dancing, swing, waltz and ballroom dancing, including a tribute to Astaire’s shadow dance seen in the musical film Swing Time, regarded as one of the best musical film performances by Astaire and Rogers,” Dr Crees said.
A Fine Romance has plenty of glitz and glamour with beautiful costumes, astonishing dancing and the timeless music of Irving Berlin, Cole Porter and the Gershwin brothers, including songs like The way you look tonight, They can’t take that away from me and Puttin’ on the Ritz.
With sold-out shows during their 2016 and 2017 tours throughout Melbourne, South Australia, Victoria and Queensland, securing this production is a real coup for the Northern Territory and Alice Springs audiences who will simply fall in love with the onstage magic and perhaps fall in love for the first time – or all over again – with the magic of Fred Astaire.
A Fine Romance: The Magic of Fred Astaire will be live onstage at the Araluen Arts Centre on Saturday 21 April 2018 at 8:00pm.
Ticket prices are $49.00 for adults, $45.00 for concession and $42.00 for Araluen Arts Centre Members.
