The members of Newman’s State Emergency Service unit officially have a new home with the opening of their $1.2 million purpose-built facility.
The facility had been many years in the planning, and the Newman SES unit had worked closely with the WA Department of Fire and Emergency Services and Shire of East Pilbara on its design, planning and furnishing.
Because of its remote location, the new facility has been constructed to operate as a level 3 incident control centre in the event of large scale incidents such as storms, cyclones, fire and land searches within the Pilbara.
The Newman SES members have a wide range of responsibilities given their remote location, and the purpose-built facility meets their wide-ranging needs and skill set.
