WA Aboriginal Affairs Minister Ben Wyatt and Kimberley MLA Josie Farrer have congratulated the Mayala native title holders for the recognition of their traditional rights under Australian law.
The Mayala consent determination was handed down at the Ardyaloon community in the Kimberley region at a ceremony presided by Federal Court Judge, Justice Barker.
The determination covers approximately 3,800 kilometres of both ocean and land of the Buccaneer Archipelago, which lies in the Kimberley between the Bardi Jawi native title determination to the south and the Dambimangari native title determination to the north.
This ruling means that the whole of the West Kimberley coastline has now been recognised in Australian law as native title lands.
