Around a dozen jobs will be created during the construction of a subdivision at Galiwin’ku, the north-east Arnhem community that inspired the Warumpi Band’s hit, My Island Home.

The 24-lot area will be used for housing as part of the Territory Government’s $1.1 billion remote housing program, Our Community. Our Future. Our Homes.

The tender was awarded to DCT Australia and the Territory-based company plans to recruit locals through the Arnhem Land Progress Association’s Bukmak Constructions and other Aboriginal organisations.

Work on the subdivision is expected to commence in December 2018.
